The challenges of parenting in a digital world have grown rapidly, and as we navigate this emerging space in 2025, the importance of guarding children from online predators and other online dangers is more urgent than ever.
Kids are starting to explore the internet at a rapid pace at earlier ages; technology is more immersive, and threats are increasingly disguised behind fun apps, emails, games, and social interactions.
Here’s how you can keep your children safe—drawing on practical advice and inspiration from Say No to Internet Monsters: A Cyber Jack Adventure.
Why Online Safety Matters in 2025 and Beyond
With social media, gaming platforms, and messaging apps forming a central part of children’s lives, online predators have more avenues than ever to make contact with our kids. These real “Internet Monsters” rarely appear as obvious villains; they often masquerade as friends, fellow gamers, or even helpful adults.
That’s why teaching children—and parents to recognize and respond to online dangers is essential.
The Story of Cyber Jack: A Teaching Tool for Families
Say No to Internet Monsters tells the story of Cyber Jack, a curious and adventurous kid who sets out to explore all the internet’s wonders. Along the way, he encounters fearsome “Internet monsters” that try to lure him into giving up his personal information and trick him into other uncomfortable situations.
With guidance from his parents and armed with lessons in internet safety vigilance, Cyber Jack learns to say no to these malicious threats, while emerging empowered and safe.
Key Safety Lessons from Cyber Jack’s Adventure
Protect Your Personal Information: Cyber Jack’s story demonstrates how predators trick kids into giving away personal details. Teach children never to share their full name, address, school, or real photos without a parent’s permission.
Recognize Online Dangers: Kids learn how to spot dangerous requests, such as secret messaging, invitations to move conversations to another app, or pressures to share pictures.
Ask for Help: The book reiterates the importance of open communication—kids should feel comfortable asking parents or trusted adults for help if something online feels “off.”
Knowledge Is Power: Familiarize young readers with key security terms and practices.
Let them ask questions: the book provides illustrations and discussion prompts for ongoing conversations between parents and children.

Praise for this book
Skip wrote a fantastic children's book covering an overlooked subject: Internet safety for children. Not only is this well written with clever rhymes, but the visuals provide images and pages of terms for children to ask questions about. This will help curious minds (and parents!) navigate today's security-challenged online world again and again. The questions presented for parents and caregivers at the end of the book is valuable guidance for seeking additional resources. This is a must-read!
Outstanding book! As a 22 year plus Federal law enforcement agent, outreach, especially to the youngest of potential victims, is the highest of priorities. Ultimately, Cyber Jack most importantly opens the door for communications between a parent and child. The encouragement for the child to engage the parent when issues arise and for the parent to stay in the know, always, to their child's social media activity and footprint are clear and concise. I look forward to hopefully many more adventures and lessons along the way!
The author has done an excellent job in outlining for small kids the dangers online. In my family, we read this book to small children and it helped to open conversations about being safe online. Think of it as a pleasant read on "stranger danger" for kids that are soon becoming online citizens. The internet is an amazing tool, but both parents and children need to be aware and discuss the darker side, too. Opening the door to difficult conversations about the internet when a child is young makes it easier to discuss as the child gets older and the stakes get higher.
